Enthusiastic sports promoter, digital creator based in Puerto Peñasco since 2010, marketing professional by career, always involved in sports activities and event organization in the city. With a vision to promote the city as a hub for sports tourism throughout the year, especially during the low season. He invites a group of enthusiastic pickleball players and friends to seek the organization and promotion of the sport, which has been the fastest-growing sport in the United States and is also making strides in Mexico. With the goal of adding talent and a desire to grow in the organization of this sport, we are currently working hand in hand with the Pickleball Rocky Point Club to establish the first roster and player registration for league affiliation with the Mexican Pickleball Federation, as well as the implementation of clinics, tournaments, and leagues.

Happily retired and living full time In Puerto Penasco, Sonora, 🇲🇽. Started playing pickleball four years ago, come Thanksgiving week, on a whim. On one of Penasco sites on Facebook I had seen a post looking for pickleball players. After leaving the golf course, most days frustrated, I would jokingly comment “I’m going to start playing pickleball.” Well seeing that post I went down to the courts on Luis Encinas to see what the game of pickleball was all about. I had on old sneakers, no paddle, didn’t know A rule and knew no one. That quickly changed. The pickleball community readily accepted me, loaned me a paddle and offered instructions and direction…and every day since😊. That same sense of community continues to this day, four years later. I’ve often said moving to Puerto Penasco was the best thing I and my wife Mary ever did but being part of the Penasco Pickleball Community runs a a very close second. This coming from a guy who wears a T-shirt that reads “I love golf and pickleball and maybe three people.” Looking forward to meeting you all on the court🏓. John McDermott

I had the opportunity to retire from my career as a Certified Executive Pastry Chef in June 2021 and moved to Puerto Penasco, Mexico with my husband John and our dog Daisy. I have played tennis since I was 9 years old but was introduced to pickleball by a neighbor here. Now I am addicted. I became a Diplomat with the International Pickleball Federation, and I am currently working on becoming a Level 1 Certified Pickleball Coach. When I am not on the pickleball court you can find me on my Paddleboard or walking the beach with my husband and dog or baking something up yummy in the kitchen. Most evenings we spend playing ping pong under our palapa, which really helps my pickleball game!
